Blue-green #algae – now a year-round danger for dogs

blue-green algae in Swiss water bodies.

Zurich authorities warn:

“Blue-green algae are present in all of our lakes and rivers. In warm, calm water, they proliferate rapidly and rise to the water’s surface. Then they become a problem – but they also become visible. Therefore, if the water is murky, streaks or foam form on the surface, caution is advised, and it is not recommended to bathe in or let dogs near or in the water at these locations. Blue-green algae can grow in open water and in the shore area on water plants or stones. Recently, blue-green algae have been appearing year-round and not just in late summer.”
